If doing contemporary hip hop dance moves isn’t for your child, our classes blend in jazz, tap and musical theatre, so there’s something for everyone. Classes cater to children of all dance abilities, and no prior dance experience is required; you can start fresh at Ready Set Dance.
What elements of hip hop are taught in Ready Set Dance classes?
In our combination dance programs, some introductory key elements of hip hop class make this style exciting and dynamic. These techniques include popping, locking and freestyle movement. Popping involves quick, sharp movement to "pop" with each beat of the music. Locking focuses on sharp, freezing movements followed by fluid transitions, giving a unique groove to the dance routine. Part of Ready Set Dance encourages little dancers to express themselves creatively through freestyle movements. These foundational elements allow children to explore creativity, build confidence and truly express themselves through rhythm. We don’t restrict movement; we guide safe exploration and self-expression.
Does the Ready Set Dance program offer kids hip hop dance classes for toddlers?
In short, yes. The Ready Set Dance program doesn’t strictly offer hip hop dance and street dance classes. However, we incorporate energetic and fun hip hop kids-moves and routines into our hour-long lessons. From the first class, we teach foundational hip hop moves and grooves in an age-appropriate and supportive environment for children aged 2 to 5 years old. You’ll quickly have the coolest hip hop dance kids on the block!
What dance style does Ready Set Dance teach besides hip hop?
In addition to hip hop, Ready Set Dance lessons include a mixed variety of dance styles, including jazz, tap and singing which can lead to progression into musical theatre. We also have a Ready Set Acro class to introduce acrobatics to kids to help promote their developmental milestones. Our diverse range of dance styles in each class allows children to explore the wide and magical world of dance to find the perfect style and best dance classes for them as they grow into bigger, more confident dancers. We also provide ballet-specific classes in our Ready Set Ballet program.
Do Ready Set Dance kids classes include street style dance?
While we don’t offer specific hip hop classes for kids, our classes have a partial focus on teaching hip hop while incorporating elements of creativity and self-expression. Students will learn musicality, foundational hip hop moves and choreography. The dance skills they learn will help them gain confidence in freestyle techniques in a supportive and inclusive environment. It won’t be long after they join our classes that your living room will become the stage for your own kids hip hop classes as your little ones gain self-esteem and confidence to show you their moves.
What should my child wear to a hip hop dance class?
In our hip hop dance class for kids, we suggest dressing your little dancer in Ready Set Dance uniform. Uniform options offer dancers the choice of a leotard, tights and Jazz/Tap shoes, or a Ready Set Dance T-shirt, shorts and Jazz/Tap shoes. Long hair should be tied back to prevent it from interfering with movement. Additionally, we offer a selection of fun hair accessories, so your child can express their own unique style!
Do you offer toddler hip hop classes?
We offer hip hop dancing for kids right from walking age! Our Ready Set Move dance classes are perfect for a toddler-age group.
