(Children’s Ballet Classes) - FAQs
What is ballet?
Ballet is a classical dance form characterised by precise movements, graceful gestures, and intricate footwork in traditional ballet steps. The Ready Set Ballet program serves as the foundation for our young ballerinas and ballerinos who will learn the basic foundations of ballet and provides an additional opportunity to participate in recitals and concerts!
Whether it is ballet or the other dance styles we offer, our emphasis is on providing a fun and exciting introduction to the magical world of dance. As well as sharing the magic of ballet, our classes can also help children develop technique, fundamental movements, strength, muscle tone, fitness, and flexibility.
At what age can my child start preschool ballet classes?
Children can take their first class at 2 years of age, learning grace and coordination while having a lot of fun along the way. Our multilevel curriculum dance programs are carefully designed for children at the ages of 2 through to 5 years old.
We offer ballet classes for toddlers through to ballet dance classes for 5 year olds of various skill levels. Our level 1 classes are predominantly for children aged 2-4, while our level 2 classes are for 4-5 year olds. This is to accommodate young dancers as they develop their techniques and passion for self expression and story-telling through ballet and the performing arts in general.
Does my child need any prior dance experience to join RSD’s ballet classes for toddlers?
As with our Ready Set Dance program (which focuses on Hip Hop, Tap, singing, music and jazz techniques), no prior experience in dancing is required to join our Children's Ballet Classes. Our instructors are trained to work with your little ones at a beginner level and will provide guidance and instruction within our dance classes to help your tiny tots learn and progress with every lesson.
What should my child wear to a children’s ballet class?
Our experienced teachers recommend that your little dancer wears Ready Set Dance ballet attire, including a leotard, tights, and ballet shoes for girls and a Ready Set Dance T-shirt, shorts and ballet shoes for boys. Long hair should be tied back to ensure it doesn't interfere with movement. We also have a range of fun hair accessories your children can choose from so they can express their own unique style!
How long are ballet classes for toddlers and children?
The duration of a Ready Set Ballet Dance School ballet class for children typically ranges from 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the child’s age and level of skill. Lessons include warm-up exercises, technique drills, and dance and ballet choreography. To find out more specific information, find a class near you!
What are the benefits of ballet for children?
Our Ballet classes focus on helping children develop strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and posture. It also promotes discipline, self control, focus, creativity, artistic expression, and self-confidence. On top of this, Ready Set Ballet classes are a wonderful opportunity for your tiny dancer to have fun and make new friends!
Are ballet classes safe for young children?
Yes, ballet classes for pre-school aged children are designed to be safe and age-appropriate. It’s the number one priority for the Ready Set Ballet programs to create a stress free, welcoming atmosphere and a safe, supportive and friendly environment for young kids to learn to the best of their abilities.
Our professional teachers emphasise proper ballet technique and provide supervision to ensure the safety of all students as they learn to move their tiny toes all on their own! Our original music and props are all age-appropriate, safe, tested, and designed to inspire little ballet dancers.
Can parents watch ballet classes?
This is determined by our official studios and dance teachers who offer Ready Set Ballet. As RSB is an independent learning model, generally most studios kindly ask that parents refrain from entering the dance studio during their little ones’ dance class time.
How do I know if my child is ready to move up to the next level?
Our levels are based on age. Level 1 has been created to suit children aged 2-4 years old with age and developmentally appropriate progressions. Level 2 is more focused toward preschool aged children to meet their milestone requirements. Level 2 also allows ballet teachers to build on your child’s technique and ballet skill levels.
Can my child participate in ballet performances or recitals?
As part of our program, we offer our official locations concert and recital songs. Whether or not performances or recitals are held is based on the discretion of the licensed studios who provide our Ready Set Ballet classes. In addition to the regular class schedule most of our official locations offer opportunities for students to participate in end of year ballet performances or recitals throughout the year as well as viewing weeks and other showcase opportunities.
These performances allow students to showcase their new skills and creativity while gaining performance experience and confidence from a young age group. Participation in these events is optional but highly encouraged.
